Passport renewal

Passport renewal is the process of updating and expired or expiring passport to ensure smooth international travel. It involves submitting an application, providing ID documents and paying a fee. In India, passports are valid for 10 years and should be renewed on time.

Registering Online for Passport Renewal Process

• First register on passport seva website.
• If you are already registered, then login with your accounts details.
• After that you need to select your CITY and then fill all other information.
• You will receive an activation link on your mail ID.
• Once you have signed into the passport account, go to the 'Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport' tab.
• After that choose either ‘Normal’ or ‘Tatkaal’ form of application and the number of pages in passport which is either 36 pages or 60 pages.
• Book your slot as per your convenience where you will have to select a date and time on which you can visit the Passport Seva office to get your documents verified.
• Make the payment online according to your payment convince. Print your application. Your passport renewal process is done.

• The application fee to renew a passport is Rs.1,500 for adults and Rs.1,000 for minors.  

Documents Required for Passport Renewal

• Original old Passport
• Self-attested copies of the first two and last two pages of the passport.
• Self-attested copy of the Emigration Check Required (ECR)/Non-ECR page.
• Self-attested copy of the page of observation, if any, made by the Passport Issuing Authority.
• Self-attested copy of the validity extension page, if any, with respect to the Short Validity Passport (SVP)
• Proof of documents which eliminate the cause of issuance of Short Validity Passport (SVP).

Difference between Renewal and Reissue of Passports
